Hours after killing ten Palestinians in a brutal raid on Jenin and its refugee camp, Israeli media reported that the occupation is planning to deploy the Iron Dome missile defense system in the southern occupied territories in fear of rocket fire from the resistance.
Israeli news website Walla reported on 26 January that the decision to activate the Iron Dome system came after statements were released by the Gaza-based resistance factions promising justice for the ten dead Palestinians, who were all killed by Israel in less than 24 hours.
“The will of our nation is stronger than the crimes of the occupying regime. Jenin, the West Bank, and its residents will remain invincible, and these crimes will only increase the strength and determination of the people,” the deputy head of Hamas’ political wing, Saleh al-Aroori, said in a statement, adding that Israel will pay a “heavy price” for this latest crime.
In a statement released by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) resistance faction, a senior leader in the organization, Dawood Shahab, said: “No matter how great the sacrifices are, and no matter how aggressive the Israelis are, and no matter how far they proceed in terrorizing Palestinians, the truth will surely prevail.”
The Jordanian Foreign Ministry has also released a statement of condemnation and said that Israel’s actions risk the outbreak of another wide-scale confrontation, as was the case in 2021.
Meanwhile, Israeli Minister of Defense, Yoav Gallant, is currently carrying out an ‘assessment’ of the current situation. According to Israel’s Channel 12, Gallant will hold a meeting later today with the Israeli military’s chief of staff, General Herzi Halevy, and the head of the Shin Bet security service.
Additionally, Halevi has declared a state of alert across Israel as a result of the events that took place in Jenin, army spokesman Avichay Adraei said in a statement.
As a result of the brutality of Israel’s latest raid on Jenin, the injury toll is expected to remain on the rise. Eyewitnesses, media outlets, and officials have all described today’s events as a massacre.
